(The description of the evening on which the Pandavas started their journey to the scene of the game of dice.)

As they surround the flaming sun,
So many are the spreading clouds set ablaze! Oho!
What aspects of hues are these!
How many are the forms! How many blends!
Lava of fie! Streams of melted gold!
Golden islets that burn without emitting heat!
See friend!
Blue lakes!
Aha! How many hues in the one blue hue!
How pink! How many are the hues of green and black!
Huge ghost of black!
Golden boats floating on blue lakes!
Black peaks with golden lines of flaming light!
See friend!
The dark ocean wherein float
Many a golden shark!
Aha! Wherever doth the eye go,
Fusion of light! Fusion of light! Fusion of hues!

பார்சுடர்ப் பரிதியைச் சூழவே படர்முகில்
எத்தனை தீப்பட டெரிவன! ஓகோ!
என்னடீ யிந்த வண்ணத் தியல்புகள்!
தீயின் குழம்புகள்!-செழும்பொன் காய்ச்சி
விட்ட வோடைகள்!-வெம்மைதோன் றாமே
எரிந்திடுந் தங்கத் தீவுகள்!பாரடீ
நீலப் பொய்கைகள்!-அடடா, நீல
வன்ன மொன்றி லெத்தனை வகையடீ!
எத்தனை செம்மை! பசுமையுங் கருமையும்
எத்தனை!-கரிய பெரும்பெரும் பூதம்!
நீலப் பொய்கையின் மிதந்திடுந் தங்கத்
தோணிகள் சுடரொளிப் பொற்கரை யிட்ட
கருஞ் சிகரங்கள்! காணடி, ஆங்கு
தங்கத் திமிங்கிலம் தாம்பல மிதக்கும்
இருட்கடல்!-ஆஹா! எங்குநோக் கிடினும்
ஒளித்திரள்! ஒளித்திரள்! வன்னக் களஞ்சியம்!
