MY LOVER KANNAN

To whom shall I mention it, my friend,
That I have forgotten the face of my darling?
The heart has not forgotten love.
How can ever the face be forgotten?

The eyes do discern a form.
But then,
Discern not I the whole charm of Kanna.
I see the face coming close.
But then,
Discern not I the blooming laughter.

The heart contemplates being related to him,
Striving incessant and unceasing.
The lips utter the glory of Mayan,
For ever and for ever.

It’s the sin of the eyes,
That the form of Kanna the darling is forgotten.
Have you ever seen such a silly girl
Among the women through the whole world?
The bee that forgets nectar;
The flower that forgets bright colours;
The plant that forgets the sky –
Nowhere, dear friend, are there such.
Is there any use for the eye
When the form of Kanna is forgotten?
I don’t have even his portrait.
What’s the way to keep living in the world, then, my friend?
