(The Land of Classical Tamil)

When we say Senthamizh Nadu
The honey of joy vibrates in our ears,
When we speak of the land of heroes
A power generated in our breath.
Tamizh nadu abounds in the Vedas;
Tamizh nadu is buoyant with bravery;
Tamizh nadu is encompassed with virgin lasses
Like the love-making divine dancers.

Tamizh nadu was nourished by many a river
Like the Cauvery, the South Pennar and Palar
The Vaigai the cradle of Tamizh and Porunai
Encircle it lovingly.

Tamilnadu is protected by the strength of the
Lofty hill of the great sage of triple Tamizh
All the wealth which the world has
Tamizh nadu has all in one place.

At the southern tip where the blue waves of the ocean rush
The virgin stands performing penance for ever.
In the north stands erect the hill of Mayavan
Between these lies Tamizh nadu densely drenched in glory.

Tamizh nadu was eminent in education
In Tamizh nadu was born famous Kamban
The fragrance of all sastras spread all over the world
Emanating from this our Tamizh nadu.

Tamilnadu acquired glory as high as the sky
By gifting Valluvan to all the world
Tamizh nadu wears close to its bosom a chain
Of gems called ‘The Lady of the Anklet”.

This is the motherland of the great heroes
Who went to Lanka, Pushpaka and Java
And settled there unfurling the flags
Inscribed with the insignia of the tiger and the fish.

In Tamizh nadu stood the valiant heroes
Who had the capacity to knock at the Himalayas
Which knocks at the heaven and fight profoundly
To dispel the darkness of Kalinga.

The rays of their fame spread far and wide
To lands such as China, Egypt and Greece
Tamizh nadu fostered with the gnana of art
The craft of war and commerce abroad.

முத்தமிழ் மாமுனி நீள்வரையே - நின்று
மொய்ம்புறக் காக்குந் தமிழ்நாடு - செல்வம்
எத்தனை யுண்டு புவிமீதே - அவை
யாவும் படைத்த தமிழ்நாடு. (செந்தமிழ்)
நீலத் திரைக்கட லோரத்திலே - நின்று
நித்தந் தவஞ்செய் குமரியெல்லை - வட
மாலவன் குன்றம் இவற்றிடை யேபுகழ்
மண்டிக் கிடக்குந் தமிழ்நாடு. (செந்தமிழ்)
கல்வி சிறந்த தமிழ்நாடு - புகழ்க்
கம்பன் பிற்நத தமிழ்நாடு - நல்ல
பல்வித மாயின சாத்திரத் தின்மணம்
பாரெங்கும் வீசும் தமிழ்நாடு. (செந்தமிழ்)
வள்ளுவன் தன்னை உலகினுக்கே - தந்து
வான்புகழ் கொண்ட தமிழ்நாடு - நெஞ்சை
அள்ளும் சிலப்பதி காரமென் றோர்மணி
யாரம் படைத்த தமிழ்நாடு. (செந்தமிழ்)
சிங்களம் புட்பகம் சாவக - மாதிய
தீவு பலவினுஞ் சென்றேறி - அங்கு
தங்கள் புலிக்கொடி மீன்கொடி யும் நின்று
சால்புறக் கண்டவர் தாய்நாட. (செந்தமிழ்)
விண்ணை யிடிக்கும் தலையிமயம் - எனும்
வெற்பை யடிக்கம் திறனுடையார் - சமர்
பண்ணிக் கலிங்கத் திருள்ளெடுத் தார்தமிழ்ப்
