Professor Dr.K.Chellappan, Former Director, State Institute of English,
Chennai is a scholar in translation, ciriticism, comparative litrature
and Indian writing in English and well known at national and international
fora. During his tenure as Professor and Head, Department of English,
Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, he had contributed much
to the development of English and Tamil studies in India. A translator
par excellence, he has contributed to translation as a discipline
not only with a large corpus but also with considerable theoretic
input. He is a recipient of the Bharathidasan Award, Government of
Tamlnadu. His translation of Dr.Kalaignar's Kuraloviyam has enjoyed
wide acclaim.
